I love rain… I love the sound it makes outside, I love drinking hot choco (with small pieces of marshmallows) at the terrace when it rains, I love traveling by bus or cab when typhoon strikes the Metro and I love getting wet by the rain.

However, this is the only time I hated it.

Yesterday on my way to work, rain is already drizzling. I was such in a good mood as the weather is so cold and I got to wear jackets. The rain never stop upto the time I went home this morning and right now when writing this.

I was awakened by the knock on the door. My father is calling me and asked me not to go to work due to floods in the nearby areas. There are only 2 roads to take to get out from where I am at. And both roads were broken and the floods were overflowing.

Trying to understand what my father is telling me, I laid back again on my bed and that’s when I noticed that it’s already dark. I checked my lappie and noticed it to be off. That’s when I figured out that we do not have any electricity. Tonight will be my last shift for this week and I can’t take my time off from my work. I still have pending jobs to do.

I grabbed my phone and noticed that I have 6 unread messages. Two of them are from my team members advising that they can’t get to work due to flood in their area. I advised for the same to my superior and after few minutes, I got a call from him. That’s when I knew that the two building where our offices are located are both shut down.

After making few phone calls and hearing news that my sister’s house got hit of flood, other superior was stranded in the office, the electricity is back. Grabbed my phone and lappy right away and charge it and connect to the world. Thank God Internet is back!

As soon as I opened up facebook and twitter, that is where I realizes that this rain is so bad! People in Marikina are already on their roof, stranded all over town, roads can’t be used due to flood! What is happening?

I am so sad that some of us have to be in such state of calamities. Hope that the government will do something for these people. This is the time we needed you, Mrs. Arroyo.

So far, what we can do is to pray for those families who needed help and take part in telling NDCC about our friends who is in need of help.
