The Journey Of A Simple Guy In Finding The Best Of Life
20 Jun
Before deciding to get the 3G iPad, my worries are the price and the 3G capabilities. iPad is using a microSIM which is not yet available in the Philippines when it was released. Luckily, people at Globe have come up with an iPad plan which includes an unlimited data plan and uses microSIM for Php 999 (lock-in period 1 year).
I was about to sign up for it and cancel my super surf on my phone however, I wanted to check other networks first as my Globe tattoo is not working well in my area. I have wifi at home but I needed it for mobile use and emergency.
My concern in using 3G network from other Telcos falls on the SIM. They are using the regular SIM which will not work on iPad unless… You cut it.
Oh yes… Cut the edge of it to the size of the micro SIM. I was told about this by Sir Nico but haven’t tried it yet. I tried researching for it and was surprised that a lot have tried it and it actually worked! So I decided to try it on a SUN Broadband SIM as I was hearing that the connection was pretty good. We’ll see…
Here’s what I’ve done:
1. I used the included AT&T microSIM in the iPad.
2. The materials I’ve used.
3. SUN Broadband wireless SIM
4. I’ve aligned the AT&T SIM to the Sun SIM and cut the edges of the markings.
5. Try the SIM on the trayand check if there’s a need to trim off the edges.
6. Voila! Customized Micro SIM!
7. Insert the SIM tray into the slot. The iPad detected the SIM right away with the 3G connection.
8. Change the APN to “minternet”. There are some instances that it will just right away work without it but in my case, I needed to try it.
9. Tried Safari and…. Instant 3G connection!
Oh well, contrary to my belief… SUN’s 3G connection in my area is poor! Will try to cut other SIM to test…

DENG dat desperation!!!! hahahahaah mag SUN na tayong lahat!
How did you align the AT&T SIM and the Sun SIM? I mean, may margins diba?
Hi John Carl, nope the sim don’t have margins. I just manually aligned both SIMs by using a ruler. I measured the edge of the metal part of the AT&T SIM up to the edge part of the plastic part of the AT&T SIM and do the same on the SUN.
Okay, thanks!
does this work for postpaid sun as well?
It should. As long as you cut it properly to fit in the tray and be recognized by the iPad.
men your great, your a big help to me thanks a lot . . . bow bow bow
cool! thanks for sharing the info!
can i ask, does it work with an iOS or you need to jailbreak your iPad3G?
it works just fine.
I have a problem now, i just cut my post paid sim without breaking the edges, coz im gonna try to use it again if ever i want to use my sunbro in my laptop (for games)…it seems that it doesnt work anymore, its says the sim is invalid…am i doing something wrong, anyway the microsim sunbro works fine in my ipad…i just want to use it again in my computer…any suggestions
panu ung load nito, or unlimited ba?salamat
Depends on the type of the prepaid card. I tried 1 day unlimited when I was still using this Sun Sim
thnx buddy… it works.. so can i just reload my prepaid sim so i could connect to 3g right? it will not guarantee unlimited connection. am i right?
Unlimited Connection only if you have post paid sim
no 3G connection for me. it only says “(signal)Sun E” anyone experiencing this problem too?
You are running on Edge Speed in that location. Try turning on and off the cellular signal and check if you’ll get 3G if not restart… if still doesnt work, move to other location
Yes, you can customized any sim
Pwede ba yung broadband sa ipad2? No 3g kc yubg ipad.
Yep using a wifi connection.
i have the same problem with aurix, if once the sun regular broadband sim is cut into a microsim, are there any other ways to put it back to your regular sun modem. or does sun already have a microsim? thanks! great post btw!
Im not sure if Sun already have their own micro sim but there’s this Mini Sim adaptor that you can use. In my case, when I needed to load my then sun customized Micro Sim, I just aligned the metal plate on my phone. It works like a normal sim. However, it might not work on some other phones.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
paano po mgunlit internet sa sun using ipad?
Hi. Im actually not sure if they have UNLISURF or something but what I normally do is buy a 1 day or 3 days card from Sun.
Went to Sun shop 2 days ago. They now have micro sim available! FINALLY! W00t!
Yep, Finally! LOL
uh… i just visited sun shop in megamall… they dont have microsim and they dont cut it for you as well.
too bad. I think you may try calling the store first. BTW, you may try to go GH and have them cut the sim for you. I think it costs 150 or maybe lower
how bout on mobile phones that supports microsim? will it work? lets say i’ll cut my old sun prepaid sim… + fingers +
It should work.
I’m using my Sun broadband sim in my iPad when I’m on the road. I have it cut at ATC (100 pesos na lang). At home I transfer the sim in my WI-FI Sun Broadband. In this case my plan is maximized.
