Do you guys remember the scene in Sex and the City where Carrie and Miranda had to meet in their local greasy joint for a Midnight chit chat and snack? I don’t know how many times I’ve attempted doing that when I was in East Coast but for some reasons, I failed.
Several pizza places have open in Manila which tried to copy the authentic New York style pizza. Don’t get me wrong, not even Yellow Cab can give that ultimate feel. You know that you’re eating one when its large, wide, freshly hand tossed, and foldable shape (of course, greasy), served on a white paper plate and eaten on streets.
Good thing that the people behind Borough have decided to setup a pizza joint in Bonifacio High Street Central. Gone are the days of dreaming of going back to Manhattan and taking a subway to Spring Street to try on Lombardi’s.
NOLITA (North of Little Italy), is a newly opened New York style restaurant which opened in BHS Central by Chef Kaufman. The store offers wide and close to authentic NYC Style pizza, chicken, pasta, desserts and salad.
The place has this “Borough feel” or the same ambience as those restos in Manhattan. It’s industrial and casual look gives a vibe of good place to hang out with friends during wee hours for a chat or to waste time. I love the playful setup of industrial lamps fixtures as wall accent. I kind of thinking painting one wall in my room in black and install industrial lamps.
NOLITA is a self-serve place which means you have to go to the counter to place and take your orders. After paying, you have to go to the pizza guy and tell him your pizza order. The Pizza guy will reheat your pizza and serve it on a paper plate.
To greatly enjoy the food, I recommend eating your pizza using your hands. Fold the pizza, close your eyes and think of the dirty and noisy NYC for 10 seconds, open your eyes, grab the pizza and take a bite! Paper towels are everywhere so don’t panic if greasy oils would drips down on your hand or paper plates. I swear, you’ll love it!
